The course incorporates a combination of theory based classes, technical skill training and industry based work experience.
This course provides you with the opportunity to challenge yourself physically, emotionally and mentally and gives you the chance to develop outdoor leadership skills. You will develop judgement, technical skills and safety skills, as well as the interpersonal skills required to teach and lead others unsupervised in the outdoors.
This is a challenging program providing you with opportunities to learn new skills, meet like-minded, committed people, and obtain invaluable skills and experience in preparation for a career in the outdoor recreation industry.
The Certificate IV focuses on developing leadership, facilitation, management, adventure-based learning and risk management skills relevant to the outdoor industry. The theoretical component of the course covers important topics such as program planning and administration, program logistics, risk management, relevant business skills for the outdoor profession, client relationship management and project management.
Activity specialisations developed throughout this program include advanced bushwalking, instruct flat water canoeing, adventure based learning.
Wilderness First Aid, Single pitch abseiling (natural surfaces) and mountain biking are available at an additional cost.
Industry Experience: The condensed delivery of this program requires students to already have a Certificate 3 In Outdoor Recreation and 6 months working experience to be eligible for this delivery model, or equivalent industry experience. Students will also be expected to undertake some Industry work placements whist on the course, to ensure that suitable graduates are work ready and employable.
Course Duration: The course is designed to be delivered over a ten (10) month period from February to November.
Delivery schedule: Unless working for one of our Industry Partners, this course will be delivered through short workshops, online and short courses over a series of weekends.
